Volume data can come from various scientific domains like biomedical sciences, geophysics, tissue engineering, etc. Domain scientists working with volume datasets often need to analyze and understand the internal structures of a volume. This project introduces a novel tool for this purpose, inspired by the real-world two-handed cracking metaphor. We call this the volume cracker.

Looking for a Dedicated Server? Consider a KVM VPS
When you run a website that attracts a lot of traffic and updates keep happening day in and day out, shared services are not what you will be looking out for. Shared services will help you save some money but the chances are sure that you will not be getting the kind of robust hosting you are looking for. You should instead look for a dedicated server. And if you are looking at Linux then KVM VPS is what you should be looking at.
Many people think that a dedicated server is always a physical server. It is true that most of the dedicated servers are physical machines the times are changing now the VDS or Virtual Dedicated server has become a reality. In the domain of VDS the name you tend to hear most often is KVM VPS.
A dedicated server offers a host of benefits. You get superb performance from this server because you totally control it. It is highly reliable where you own the hardware, the software and also the administrator privileges. A dedicated server is also totally secure because no one other than you can access it. You can customize the server as per your need and the firewall can also be set up like you wish for. With your own IP address and upgrade paths possible nothing beats the functionality of the dedicated server.
As far as KVM VPS is concerned, it also provides a range of services. Some of the benefits of the KVM VPS include your chosen dedicated file system, isolation like a dedicated server with a dedicated RAM that you can access and debug at will, IPSec, PPTP and Open VPN, independent kernel and kernel modules and full control and so on. But what makes the KVM VPS so special is that it is a virtual machine. This means that you don’t need to invest in any hardware. Your KVM VPS will be on cloud where it will sit as an isolated virtual machine and provide you all the services you need.
Most of the new websites today opt for virtual web hosting because of the return on investment associated with it. They have full control over the way they configure and manage their website and this is what makes it so easy to run their website. And the bigger websites now choose a dedicated server because of the security parameter it offers. And of course, Linux being one of the sturdiest and most secure platforms available, website owners don’t at all mind opting for the KVM VPS.
With time the costs of dedicated server and KVM VPS have come down drastically. Even a few years ago people were scared of investing in dedicated server and KVM VPS because of the high cost involved. But both these have created such value and competition has also brought down their prices so much that it seriously doesn’t make sense if you don’t invest in a dedicated server and KVM VPS if you have the need.
Although you have the option of choosing a physical dedicated server a KVM VPS is something you may want to consider.

Modern technology has brought us streaming music, streaming movies, video chatting, texting, mp3s,…and Tupac? The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California is annual multi weekend festival featuring a variety of musical acts. Past performers have included Pearl Jam, The Beastie Boys, Roger Waters, Madonna, Dr. Dre, The Cure, and many more. This year’s event has been highlighted by something a little bit different, the spirit of the legendary late rapper, Tupac Shakur. Tupac was resurrected in hologram form to perform with Snoop Dog on the songs, "Come With Me," "Hail Mary," and "Gangsta Party." The appearance by Tupac and another by the late, Nate Dogg, who is the cousin of Snoop, has created an outpouring of emotion and is generating such an incredible buzz that Dre and Snoop are considering taking Tupac and Nate Dogg on tour. The illusion of Tupac Shakur, who past away in 1996, was created by Digital Domain, an effects house located in Hollywood. The people at Digital Domain were able to create a CGI version of Shakur and then used angled reflectors to bring the rapper to life on stage. The performance is MAGICAL

As part of DEAF2012 a series of workshops will be organized on augmented reality, wearable technology and ecology. Each workshop will be led by artists and specialists in the field. Places are limited, it is important to register early.
http://www.v2.nl/lab/blog/deaf2012-workshops
DEAF2012 has three subthemes arising from the specialties of the V2_Lab: Augmented Reality, Wearable Technology and Ecology. Within each theme, three events will take place at the festival: a debate, a workshop and a networking event, in which you can get to know colleagues, students, artists and researchers in the field.
Each workshop will take place over two days; participants should attend both days. Below is an overview of the themes and workshops. For more details and further information on the education program and workshops by Digital Playground, NiMKplease see www.deaf.nl.
Thing Power
deaf.nl/program/modules/power-of-thing-power
Thing Power refers to the notion that all the things in the world are not just inert matter but causal forces that play decisive roles in worldly events. In philosophy, there’s a long-standing debate on the nature of the power of things. Artists and designers seem to explore and use this power on a daily basis.
May 17 Debate: Cesar Harada, Jae Rhim Lee, Harry Smoak, Roman Kirschner, Christien Meindertsma, TeZ
May 17 Meet The Scene: Arjen Bangma, Koert van Mensvoort, Simone de Waart, Sam Nemeth
May 18 & 19, Thing Power Workshop: Decompiculture
In this workshop, you will be introduced to corpse decompiculture by learning to grow edible mushrooms on your own discarded body tissue (hair, skin, nails) using simple DIY materials at home. The Infinity Burial Project’s Decompiculture Society will host this workshop, promoting awareness and acceptance of death and the cultivation of organisms that decompose and remediate toxins in dead bodies.
Crafting the Future
deaf.nl/program/modules/crafting-the-future-1
Wearable technology is an electronic-culture knowledge domain situated at the intersection between art, technology and fashion. Its purpose is to research and develop interfaces between virtual and physical realities using the body as a locus. Artists working in this domain have particular knowledge of what various materials “do” in relation to the body – for instance, how they allow, amplify or restrain certain movements, behaviors and modes of bodily expression.
May 18, Debate: Bernard Foing, Anouk Wipprecht, Mika Satomi, Moritz Waldemeyer, Francesca Rosella, Syuzi Pakhchyan
May 18, Meet the Scene: Alex Schaub, Kristi Kuusk, Mili Tharakan, Melissa Coleman
May 17 & 18, 3D Textile Workshop: Crafting the Future
This workshop will pair two crafts that are unlikely to meet in everyday life: 3D printing and weaving. You’ll create samples of new materials that could be useful in e-textiles and wearable technology, combining the two techniques in the process. The workshop will be led by professionals from the Ultimaker community and the Swedish School of Textiles. You’ll explore the possibilities together in an intense day-and-a-half-long workshop and present the results at the networking event Meet the Scene.
Augmented Society
deaf.nl/program/modules/augmented-society
Augmented reality is being applied more and more in specific domains such as advertising and location-based services. But the utopian future in which everyone constantly lives in augmented or mixed reality seems just as far away as ever. In the technical, academic AR community, this is often attributed to current technical constraints, but it can be argued that there are also societal reasons, including privacy concerns and aversion at being disconnected from the physical body.
May 19, Debate: Jacco van Uden, Julian Oliver, Mark Shepard, Prof. Mireille Hildebrandt, Christian van ‘t Hof
May 19, Meet the Scene: AR Lab, TU Delft, Layer
May 17 & 18 Augmented Society Workshop: Mock-It-Up
This workshop with Jan Klug, Olivier Otten and Keiichi Matsuda will investigate dystopian and utopian visions of augmented reality. Of course, it is not technically possible to create all these experiences now, so we’ll create mock-up visualizations instead. The first morning will be devoted to concept development; after that, storyboarding and initial video shooting will begin. On the second day, we’ll create compelling videos, using tools ranging from cardboard to AR markers and video manipulation, depending on the concepts and storyboards dreamed up by participants. This workshop is available by registration only. Click here to download the registration form. Please fill out the form and e-mail it to Jan Misker with “DEAF2012 AR workshop application” in the subject line.

Augmented Reality to Market Your Business
By: henri doolin
Augmented reality is a technology that allows you to put your product directly in the hands of your potential clients. Probably, you may not be aware what augmented reality is and how it performs. But if you are a Cricket fan than you might have noticed colouring lines on the field representing where the ball had made its pitch on the ground, or perhaps in which direction and how the batsman had played his shot. These lines arent real; they are some of the best examples of the technology with augmented reality. These lines are added with the help of computer graphics for television viewing.
Advertisers have started using the technology to add digital information on the products of the real world environment in the form of videos, pictures, sounds, animations, web contents and more. Augmented reality is a computer generated sheet over the actual world, which can be seen only through a tablet or smartphone with a camera or a computer with a webcam. Another example that you may be familiar with is the Smartphone App Layar. It recognizes the real-world objects and allows the user to interact with the world around them by scanning images such as magazines, advertising posters, restaurant menus and more, with the help of integrated digital augmented reality.
Augmented reality has proven to be an innovative and effective marketing strategy, as well as an effective sales tool. The technology still may be not used for small businesses but imagine the profitability and customer satisfaction level when your customers sees themselves wearing and experiencing your products, or perhaps experiencing and seeing them at their comfort zone at their home or on a smartphone device. This allows your customer to decide that whether they should buy the product or not. This creates a more psychological connection for the customer by adding better interactivity to the sales process.
Luxury watch brand have designed desktop based augmented reality apps that allows the potential customer to try the watches at home here to see the example – http://www.tissot.ch/reality/ Car companies have developed virtual demo system that allows potential customer to experience and get the insight of the vehicle.here to see the example – http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/augmented_reality/homepage?bcsource=vanity
Apart from allowing the customers to feel more connected to the product, augmented reality has several other advertising benefits. At first, it is a new technology so any new company using this technology will appear to be advanced, creative and forward thinking. Additionally, most of the augmented reality apps are customised to meet the specific industry, domain or organization requirement. Besides, most of these applications are personalized such as taking a picture of yourself and having it overlaid with a branded shoe for example. This personalization will allow your business to directly connect with the potential customer, and at the same time they may share those pictures to social media sites, drawing the attention of mass audiences.
Overall, augmented reality certainly proves an effective and modern way to market, as well as to give your business a new edge.

Concurrent with the module system for thesis at Parsons AMT dt, you’ll take writing & research,
In a Name, Fred Eerdekens, 2005
which, for all intents and purposes could also be known as Concept & Methods.
Now, conceptualization and methodology would be a challenging class in any case, however I think it is particularly challenging in this program, because rather than pursue study of a particular area as a group, in the thesis program you each have a unique area of research to master.
Debtor’s Inheritance, Katie Murken, 2007
So with that in mind, in writing & research we aim to focus on the common denominator across your individual programs. In 2011/2012 that meant a highly detailed and sensitive understanding of the contexts for each project.
This is not a traditional approach to design thinking, in that it is more akin to the thinking you’d use to create a contour drawing of the negative space surrounding an idea, distinct from how you would draw onto a tableaux rasa or a white cube. Design and technology students approach creativity as engineers–through the careful observation and theorization of total situations, through the recognition of interactions beyond those between “consumer” and “producer”.
Another reason for focus on context is that the contexts of everyday life are now so damn slippery. Throughout the fall we consider context through a variety of domains and specializations
tumblr_m2gscfYFn91qjjis9o1_500
Aesthetically and phenomenologically – because there are new dialectics, networks, and ecosystems informing the everyday. You have not only the relationship between subject and object, but a complicated layering between real and so-called virtual realms. What is the sensory environment your project will belong in?
writing culture, james clifford and george marcus, 1986
Of course related to this are the political, ethical, and socio-cultural realms. As hinted above, will your project engage “users”, “consumers” or “co-creators”? How can you describe the groups and communities your project will live with? We’ll look at a host of new experimental approaches in ethnography to help suss this out.
metropolis, fritz lang, 1927
And finally what are the factual, and fictional attributes of the context for your project? What is the relationship between intention and reality? This, also, is ethics. We’ll address not only the destination for your project, but the possibly generative effects of your work.
amt mfa dt workshop, 2012 Photo: Maurice Sherman
Two key ways writing & research will help you to contextualize your project, in concept and method are 1. Collaborative Workshops, and 2.The Independent Learning Portfolio. We have lots of opportunities to discuss domains // practice discourse // and engage close reading of new studies in the social sciences, philosophy and media studies. And ample means for providing and receiving feedback. In class experiment with coding, and interpreting qualitative social data. (As well as mini-exhibition, guest editors, and off-campus visit)
Objects on the Horizon, Christopher Michlig, 2012 Courtesy Press Street
In the spring we shift from expansive thinking to details and refinement. You’ll write a public-facing text to communicate your skills and interests, and to document successes and failures in pursuit of your thesis.
Variations VII, John Cage, David Tudor,Gordon Mumma (foreground), Caroline Brown, Merce Cunningham, Barbara Dilley (background), 1965
Our year long aim is to plan and realize an installation to engage audience interaction beyond formal appreciation. We’ll tackle that through considering exhibition design; critical design, cinema, theatre, natural history and science museum displays throughout history and of the future, directly after spring break.
Highline restoration, diller scofidio and renfro, 2009 and ongoing
So, while the program fosters independent development of a unique program, it is founded on a collaborative and experimental approach. This image of the high line offers a good metaphor for my thinking about writing and research. These projects engage the balance between independent and collaborative study; the relationship between familiar and unfamiliar, and possibilities for highly considered and thought-provoking integrations.
